Year 1 - Crocodiles

Welcome to Year 1!

Crocodiles

Snap into action, ready to learn.

In Year 1, we snappy Crocodiles begin our journey into Key Stage One.

We focus on transitioning from Foundation into Key Stage One by gradually settling into classroom based learning more often and for longer periods of time.

Throughout our learning adventure, we continue to grow by developing our phonics skills as well as our fluency and confidence in reading. We also build our ability to write at length and use the spelling patterns and rules learnt in the Monster Phonics sessions.

Our maths skills are developed as well, as we emphasise on numbers and place value, the four mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), doubling, halving, counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s, 2D and 3D shapes, fractions, time and other measurements.

As the time goes on, we also continue to flourish socially as we learn to work in pairs, groups and as a class and are encouraged to look after one another and to follow the golden rules.

We might look snappy, but we...

  • Look and listen carefully
  • Show good sitting
  • Put our hands up
  • Work hard
  • Help each other
  • Are polite and respectful
  • Ask for help
  • Are kind and friendly
  • Make sure everyone is happy and safe!

...because we are capable, courageous and clever!
